Description

Project: HANE has been resumed!!!!!!! Project HANE was a project that started this account *and thus the username* and now, after a year, the project has resumed! I can't say too much about this, but Project HANE is starting again, with a new character! This is my new OC- Holly and her story will be told through a series of artworks (if they have Project HANE in the title).

The 1st project HANE artwork:

This artwork will also be included in the artbook, which is well under way!!! This artwork was actually drawn for my art major work for term 4 but then various things happened which inspired me to continue Project: HANE. This artwork took around 8-10 hrs on and off and I used a more painterly technique for the painting process. Critiques, comments and favs always appreciated!

I'm also currently working on 夢の鏡 my original manga story, featuring Caramel as the main character- Akane. Here is the promotional artwork:

And by the way, my chibi watercolour commissions are STILL OPEN:

Wow, she's a really cool OC! Okay, because you helped critique my work, I'll do my best to critique yours! Note: I've never done this before so I'm sorry if this is horrible. Anyway, here goes:

I'm really loving the different shades of blue in this piece, it makes the background looks really realistic. The use of colour is also done well because her face stands out. If I'm correct, you're using a new technique to shade hair? It's more detailed compared to your previous works because you've put more detail into each 'strand' of hair (if that makes any sense to you). You've captured her expression perfectly, her eyes are shiny and stand out, and even though the flower in her hair is green like her eyes, the colours are less saturated so her eyes remain more of a focal point.

I like what she's wearing, even though I'm not sure what it actually is. It's good how you haven't used the stereotypical 'mermaids have to wear shells' idea, because this looks like it's furry and it works well. I also like how you've drawn her tail because it looks alive where it joins to her upper body. The way her legs blend in with her tail is also done magnificently and it makes me think about the story behind it.

The only thing that looks odd to me is that she looks like she's floating in the air. If she had jumped out of the ocean, there would be a rush of water droplets. I am inferring that the circles you've drawn represent the water droplets; I think that maybe they could be more detailed and defined because they're not really opaque and you wouldn't see them at first glance.

What I also find strange is the fact that her tail is cuffed and attached to an anchor that seems to float up above the waves rather than sinking. But overall, I love this piece! It gives off a nice calming impact and makes you feel the ocean. The vision is soothing and dreamy, yet at the same time it sparks curiosity. Well done c;
